Manchester entrepreneur awarded Clore Social Leadership Fellowship

Manchester entrepreneur awarded Clore Social Leadership Fellowship

Manchester social entrepreneur Andy Jackson of 4hub CIC has been awarded a prestigious Clore Social Leadership Fellowship for 2015 and will now represent 4hub CIC in the Clore Social Leadership Programme.

Born in Wythenshawe, South Manchester, Andy learned very early about the power of influence, choosing as a young boy to use this for the greater good. He was a Sea Cadet throughout his youth which gave him the moral guidance and character development that some of his friends lacked. On leaving school he pursued an apprenticeship in motor vehicle mechanics, which he soon found dull, and so started teaching water sports for the Sea Cadets, and worked in a shop.

The Clore Social Leadership Programme develops individuals from across the UK who have ambitions to lead social change in their communities, organisations and the world around them.

Andy has received the Fellowship based on his extensive work with young people and social sector organisations. Andy now runs 4hub with co-Director Naomi Timperley.

Andy said, “I am delighted to have been awarded this Fellowship and can’t wait to get started and learn from the 17 other social sector industry leaders and the network of previous Fellows who will be sharing this journey with me. It is also a tremendous honour to be learning from Dame Mary Marsh and to be bringing the programme’s learning and leadership skills to Manchester.”

The 18 successful applicants to the 2015 Clore Social Leadership Programme were announced on 6th November, bringing the total number of Clore Social Fellowships awarded to 101. The new cohort has been recruited from UK-based charities, social enterprises and community organisations.  Over 160 aspiring social leaders from across the UK applied for a place on the 2015 programme, which will start in January. During this time, Fellows will attend residential courses, have a dedicated coach and mentor, undertake an extended secondment and engage in action learning sets, focused reflection and practice-based research.

Dame Mary Marsh said: “We are very excited about 2015. We have a great group of Fellows, all of whom we believe are deeply committed to social change, and a new Chair John Kampfner, the critically acclaimed author, broadcaster and commentator specialising in UK politics, international affairs, media and human rights issues. We are also really proud that this cohort will bring our network of social leaders to 101 people driving innovation and having a positive impact on individuals and communities across the UK and beyond.”
